Welcome! Misty Meadows Farm is our home and is a very small farm where we raise the occasional Friesian. We started with just one Mare, our lovely Trienke. We purchased her from Fred and Fran Hekstra in Byron Center MI. It was love at first sight the first time I visited her at Fred's farm. However, it took us a whole year before we could afford to purchase her and we still had to finish our house and barn. We managed to purchase her a year later right after she was shown at the Hastings MI inspection and was upgraded from second Premie to first Premie Ster and received Reserve Grand Champion Mare. It was so exciting and a very special moment I will never forget. Nor will I ever forget the look on Fred's face when he arrived with with Trienke, walked up to the barn door with her and realized that her stall was still not finished ! We put her back in the trailer, I fed Fred and Fran lunch and spent a special time visiting with them while a large group of my family and friends hurriedly finished the stall. Fred even helped us to place the buckets and feed dish in their proper places.

My husband Don likes to tell people that we built this place for Trienke and that life now revolves around her. And I guess it is rather true, as he reminds me always, she gets to eat before him, I clean her stall before I clean the house and I kiss her more than I kiss him! However even he will admit that the 10 years that we have owned her have been a wonderful ten years full of joyful times spent with her and all of the babies that she has given us since her arrival. We have learned so much from her and all the wonderful equestrian friends that we have made along the way. We of course are still learning and will always be learning, but the journey is a special one and we are so blessed to have found a lifestyle that enriches us and blesses us with so much.

My goal for this blog is not to teach you everything there is to know about Friesian s (since I still don't know it all and never will) or even give you information about them that you probably have already have seen in other places. I instead would really enjoy a sharing of information with you. I would love to share some of our struggles, stories, pleasures and bits and pieces of information that we have picked up along the way. I would love to have a discussion with you all on the challenges that come with owning a Friesian and the really great  things that make them special to those of us who love them so much. Also I would like you to share your experiences with your own Friesians. So welcome to the farm, Have a very blessed day,       Sandy

Congratulations on the start of your blog Sandy! I truly admire everything that you have accomplished with your 'herd' of Friesians. As a local horse friend, I can say that I have watched your farm blossom from the early beginnings with Trienke out in the field with her first foal, to the adventures of driving and parading as your horses blossomed into the beauties they have become. I look forward to seeing you share your adventures with your future chats!

Hey Nan! Thank you so much! You know how much I value your friendship, encouragement and kindness. So many times you have encouraged me to do more with my horses than I thought I was ready to do, Gotten me up and out when I thought I was too tired to ride. And just inspired me with your zest for life! Looking forward to many more adventures with you and your great horses. Thanks!

I LOVED the video of the lovely Mariska. Didn't we see her get into the food storage and helping herself to some snacks? Perhaps that may be a reason for the extra pounds. Has she had her baby? If baby is as smart as Mama-watch out!

Yes Mary, that could be part of our problem. :-) She gets the munchies and just helps herself. Hopefully we have the problem fixed. Her break outs are pretty rare now. No, she has not had her baby yet, I will post lots of pictures of the little stinker when it comes. We do worry about her passing that gene onto her foal. :-)

Hi Yvonne, well actually it is not until the first of July. So we are waiting patiently. It is later than we would have liked, but it took a bit of work to get her in foal. We will be thrilled no matter when it arrives. :-)
